Joker is a 2019 villain origin that is not based off a comic book. Its story was written by people who love the Joker and wanted to make a dark R-rated film. It follows Arthur Fleck as he goes insane and becomes the most notorious comic villain ever.
This movie is great, almost perfect. Joaquin Phoenix absolutely steals the show, showing why he is one of the best actors around right now. The way he portrays the clown loosing his mind and growing more and more unwound, is stunning. The story feels like it flows pretty well with some slower bits that show off the directors Indy film techniques. Now I say almost perfect for a few reasons. The biggest thing that threw me off were some of the music cues. There was one scene in particular that the music felt so off that it completely took me out of the story. I also felt like there were some gaps in the story that I would’ve loved to see. Overall great film.
I recommend this to anyone who likes to see unbelievable acting, as well as any comic book fan. I would not watch this as or with a child as a lot of the material is very heavy. I put this as my 5th favorite film of this year and that may be an unpopular opinion. I would love to hear what you thought about this movie so leave some comments down below.
